About this site

The European Commission embodies and upholds the general interest of the Union and is the driving force in the Union’s institutional system. Its four main roles are to propose legislation to Parliament and the Council, to administer and implement Community policies, to enforce Community law (jointly with the Court of Justice) and to negotiate international agreements, mainly those relating to trade and cooperation. 

The main features of the Commission’s web site are:

  • the latest official press releases, photos and live TV coverage of EU affairs
  • details of forthcoming events
  • links to the policies administered and implemented by the Commission
  • the possibility of influencing the decision-making process
  • easy access to its organisation (meetings, work programme, contacts…)
  • direct links to its key information services

The Commission’s websites are developed by the various Directorates General and services of the Commission
Directorate General Communication is responsible for editorial, technical and graphical coordination.
